Tyres come in many different brands, some better known than others. Some of the most famous ones will be widely known by drivers and they might think these are the brands they should choose when buying new tyres. This isn’t always the case though – there are many factors than can dictate the types of tyres you should have on your car. Brand does come into it, but it’s not the most important factor at all.
Brands that are well known aren’t necessarily higher quality and they’re not necessarily compatible with your car either. Look at the tyre specification and check things like the width in millimetres, the rim diameter, the load index and the aspect ratio. These are the points that simply have to be compatible with your vehicle and if they aren’t, you won’t be safe or road legal. Check tyre specifications first and foremost, and think about brand second.
