Better fuel economy means lower costs, which is always a welcome advantage for a car owner – car ownership is expensive. There are, however, some simple steps you can take to achieve better fuel economy. Here are some of them:
- Accelerate slowly. Acceleration should be gradual steady. If you suddenly put your foot down, this will increase fuel consumption.
- Travel light. Of course, you will often have more people and essential luggage in your car, but you can save a lot of fuel by clearing out your boot and removing the unnecessary items you carry around in your car all the time.
- Fill up your tyres to the correct level. You should always keep your tyres at the correct level according to the manufacturer’s handbook. Driving with partially deflated tyres causes more drag and takes more power, which both increase fuel consumption.
- Keep an eye on your petrol cap. Make sure it’s fully closed and there are no cracks or damage.
