The direction of the mooted new range-topping Audi A9 is still under discussion according to marketing boss Luca De Meo, who says he personally believes that a conventional coupe or Sportback wouldn’t be innovative enough.
Speculation that Audi is preparing to launch a new range-topper has been rife since boss Rupert Stadler said: “we see a great deal of potential, especially in the SUV and prestigious full size car category.”
But speaking at the Detroit motor show today, De Meo said discussions were ongoing. “If we do something, I would like it to be a statement for the brand.
“I want Audi to stand for innovation and establishing the future, and a conventional design, while attractive, wouldn’t necessarily stand for that. People but that kind of car for prestige or looks, but I want more than that.”
